AIG’s Enterprise Risk Management sets AIG’s global corporate strategy for risk management and supports the front line risk takers in proactively managing risks in support of AIG’s goal to be our clients most valued insurer. ERM is made up of both corporate and business unit risk professionals working collaboratively as “one team” to improve decision-making through better analytics that create transparency, and focus on the mitigation of the top risks that could damage AIG’s intrinsic value. ERM partners with risk professionals embedded in the businesses as well as other operations throughout AIG’s key geographic modules to apply the risk policies (e.g. Operational Risk, Reinsurance) and ensure information flows seamlessly to the corporate level.

This role will have responsibility of ownership and implementation of AIG’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework across the General Insurance (GI) global Specialty businesses, reporting to the General Insurance Risk Officer.
  • Lead a team of ERM managers / analysts and facilitate end-to-end implementation of ERM within the GI Specialty business units (Marine, Aerospace, Energy, Credit Lines). Serve as ERM’s point-person for engagement with the GI Specialty leadership team.
  • Monitor and assess end-to-end risk profile for GI Specialty businesses. Identify / address risks that have the potential to materially impact execution of GI Specialty’s strategy; analyze / escalate pertinent risk issues to Risk Committees.
  • Provide ERM perspective, input, and effective challenge to the GI Specialty:
    • Strategy and budget
    • Risk modeling (premium, reserve, man-made catastrophe, terrorism, cyber, pandemic, credit, operational, model)
    • Technical pricing and reserving approaches (in partnership with ERM’s Actuarial Challenge team)
    • Large transactions that have the potential to materially impact GI’s risk profile
    • Operational risk management practices and activities
    • Model risk management practices and activities
    • Others ad-hoc as needed
  • Strengthen risk management culture within GI Specialty business units, assuring proper balance between growth, profitability and risk, including contemplation of performance incentive structure
  • Lead education and awareness on key AIG ERM framework components, e.g., risk appetite and limits, risk identification, risk aggregation, model validation, economic capital allocations
  • Maintain / update risk policy documentation and oversee implementation in Specialty businesses to ensure decisions are well-governed and consistent with AIG’s risk framework / appetite
  • Partner with Chief Underwriting Office to support Specialty risk analytics and reporting
  • Steer economic capital model methodology and enhancement of uses in pricing and risk selection within the Specialty businesses
  • Identify opportunities, collaborate and support AIG’s business units in areas of innovation, technology, data and analytics

What we are looking for -
  • Business acumen with a proven track record of making sound judgments backed by strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Broad based General Insurance industry experience, including knowledge of Specialty insurance products and the associated risks
  • Significant risk management experience
  • Proven ability to influence and gain commitment from colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to work across interdisciplinary teams that are geographically dispersed
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to anticipate and effectively manage change
  • Extensive experience operating in a global organization
